Get Away Your Way to New York City

0

Take a bite out of the Big Apple and enjoy all that New York City has to offer by exploring some of the city’s lesser-known attractions. From interesting museums and cultural attractions to fabulous shopping and beautiful parks, the City That Never Sleeps has so much to offer, and so many attractions that go beyond the typical tourist spots. Beat the big crowds and feel like a native city dweller while visiting these hidden gems.

The entrance to The Cloisters in NYC

The Cloisters

While the Met, MOMA and the Guggenheim are among the most popular New York City museums, the Cloisters is actually one of the most scenic spots in the city. The Cloisters, which belongs to the Metropolitan Museum of Art family, is situated in Fort Tryon Park at the northern tip of Manhattan. Outside, you’ll enjoy views of the George Washington Bridge and the Hudson River. Inside, you can explore an eclectic collection of medieval art and historic pieces.

Snug Harbor Cultural Center

A trip to Snug Harbor Cultural Center is a great way to sneak in two of the city’s best attractions in one trip. Hop on the Staten Island Ferry for a free cruise to Staten Island with some of the greatest views of the Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn and lower Manhattan. Once you dock in Staten Island, make a beeline to Snug Harbor, an 83-acre facility with botanical gardens, cobblestone streets and beautiful homes.

The High Line

While everyone else is flocking to Central Park, – an 843-acre NYC icon – you should hightail it over to the High Line. This 1.5-acre park is situated on an elevated platform overlooking some of New York City’s most vibrant neighborhoods, including Chelsea, the Meatpacking District and Hell’s Kitchen. This lovely manicured green space also holds numerous food vendors, a large sunbathing area and public art installations that transport you away from the hustle of the city, while keeping you immersed in the energy and magic of the skyline.

Lower East Side

Skip SoHo’s crowds and head to one of the city’s most fashionable neighborhoods, the Lower East Side (LES). Home to some of the best indie boutiques, art galleries and restaurants LES retains much of its bohemian routes while catering more to locals in the know than tourists looking for flashy attractions.

Socrates Sculpture Park

Marvel at Manhattan’s legendary skyline from a different perspective from this 4.5-acre Queens park. In 1986, local artists created this beautiful space over land that used to be a landfill. It hosts sculpture exhibits year-round and is specially designed to encourage artists to bring their craft outdoors. It also offers some fantastic skyline views, a Greenmarket and free yoga classes.
